The Ad Blocker feature, when provided by a VPN service, is a privacy tool that automatically prevents advertisements from loading when you browse the internet.
Unlike browser extensions that operate within the web browser itself, the VPN’s Ad Blocker typically functions at the Domain Name System (DNS) level on the VPN server: when your device sends a request to load a website, the VPN’s Private DNS server intercepts the requests to all the components (images, scripts, etc.) of that site.
The VPN maintains a vast, continuously updated list of domains known to host ads. If the request is for a domain on the blocklist (i.e., an advertising or tracking server), the VPN server immediately denies the request before it even reaches your device.
Because the blocking happens at the VPN server, the protection is applied automatically to every device and every application (not just your browser) connected to the VPN.
